How we collect, use and protect personal data for candidates, clients and website visitors.
Who we are
Smart Life Sciences is a trading name of Tight 5 Consulting Ltd, registered in England & Wales (company number 10458018), registered office Abbey House, 342 Regents Park Road, London, N3 2LJ, United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
Questions about this policy can be sent to ben@smartlifesciences.net.
What data we collect
Candidates: name, contact details, CV, employment history, qualifications, salary and compensation expectations, right-to-work information, references and notes from our conversations.
Clients and contacts: name, job title, company, business contact details and correspondence.
Website visitors: information you submit via our contact form or email. We do not currently use analytics or advertising cookies.
How we collect it
Directly from you (by email, phone, our website or meetings), from referrals, and from publicly available professional sources such as LinkedIn, company websites and industry events.
Why we use it and our lawful basis
To provide recruitment services — introducing candidates to roles and clients to candidates — on the basis of our legitimate interests in running a specialist recruitment business, or to take steps at your request before entering a contract.
To meet legal obligations, such as record keeping and right-to-work checks.
To send occasional relevant updates about roles or market insight, which you can opt out of at any time.
We will always obtain your agreement before sending your CV or details to a client.
Who we share it with
Prospective employers and clients (only with your agreement), referees, trusted service providers such as email, IT and CRM suppliers who process data on our behalf, and professional advisers or authorities where required by law. We never sell personal data.
International transfers
We work with clients in the United States and Europe, so your data may be transferred outside the UK. Where this happens we use appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or UK adequacy regulations.
How long we keep it
We keep candidate data for up to 2 years after our last meaningful contact, and client records for as long as needed for our business relationship and legal, tax and accounting obligations (normally 6 years). After this, data is securely deleted or anonymised.
Your rights
Under UK and EU GDPR you can request access to, correction, deletion or restriction of your data, object to its processing, and request data portability. Contact us at ben@smartlifesciences.net and we will respond within one month.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority.
US residents
If you live in a US state with its own privacy law, such as California, you may have additional rights to know, delete and correct personal information and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information for targeted advertising. To exercise your rights, email us using the address above.
Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including access controls and secure, reputable service providers.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available on this page. Last updated: October 2026.
